The American Airlines Center is located near downtown Dallas, Texas. It is home to the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Stars and the Dallas Vigilantes. The multi-purpose facility opened on July 27, 2001. American Airlines acquired the naming rights for $195 million. The first event held there was an Eagles concert on the day after it opened. Americans Airline Center was built in the part of Dallas called Victory Park to help reinvigorate the city. It has a traditional design with brick facades and smooth arches. Some fans refer to it as "The Hangar" because of the Quonset hut-like appearance of the roof. The AT&T Plaza is located on the south side of the arena. The plaza is often used for outdoor events and movie showings.
